राजस सुख नित्य कैसे हो सकता है कोई भी मनुष्य इस क्षणिक वैषयिक सुख का भी पूर्णत और यथेष्ट भोग नहीं कर सकता? क्योंकि भोगकाल में भी उसे भय और चिन्ता लगी रहती है कि कहीं यह सुख शीघ्र ही समाप्त न हो जाय। केवल राजसी स्वभाव के लोग ही इस प्रकार के सुखों में रम सकते हैं? उसमें अभ्यास नहीं करना पड़ता। कारण कि यह प्राणी किसी भी योनिमें जाता है? वहाँ उसको विषयों और इन्द्रियोंके संयोगसे होनेवाला सुख मिलता ही है। शब्द? स्पर्श आदि पाँचों विषयोंका सुख पशुपक्षी? कीटपतङ्ग आदि सभी प्राणियोंको मिलता है। अतः उस सुखमें प्राणिमात्रका स्वाभाविक अभ्यास रहता है। मनुष्यजीवनमें भी बचपनसे देखा जाय तो अनुकूलतामें राजी होना और प्रतिकूलतामें नाराज होना स्वाभाविक ही होता आया है। इसलिये इस राजस सुखमें अभ्यासकी जरूरत नहीं है।यत्तदग्रेऽमृतोपमम् -- राजस सुखको आरम्भमें अमृतकी तरह कहनेका भाव यह है कि सांसारिक विषयोंकी प्राप्तिकी सम्भावनाके समय मनमें जितना सुख होता है? उतना सुख? मस्ती और राजीपन विषयोंके मिलनेपर नहीं रहता। मिलनेपर भी आरम्भमें (संयोग होते ही) जैसा सुख होता है? थोड़े समयेके बाद वैसा सुख नहीं रहता और उस विषयको भोगतेभोगते जब भोगनेकी शक्ति क्षीण हो जाती है? उस समय सुख नहीं होता? प्रत्युत विषयभोगसे अरुचि हो जाती है। भोग भोगनेकी शक्ति क्षीण होनेके बाद भी अगर विषयोंको भोगा जाय तो दुःख? जलन पैदा हो जाती है? चित्तमें सुख नहीं रहता? इसलिये यह राजस सुख आरम्भमें अमृतकी तरह दीखता है।अमृतकी तरह कहनेका दूसरा भाव यह है कि जब मन विषयोंमें खींचता है? तब मनको वे विषय बड़े प्यारे लगते हैं। विषयों और भोगोंकी बातें सुननेमें जितना रस आता है? उतना भोगोंमें नहीं आता। इसलिये गीतामें आया है -- यामिमां पुष्पितां वाचं प्रवदन्त्यविपश्चितः (2। 42) राजस पुरुष स्वर्गके भोगोंका सुख सुनते हैं तो उनको वह सुख बड़ा प्रिय लगता है और वे उसके लिये ललचा उठते हैं। तात्पर्य है कि वे स्वर्गके सुख दूरसे सुनकर ही बड़े प्रिय लगते हैं परन्तु स्वर्गमें जाकर सुख भोगनेसे उनको उतना सुख नहीं मिलता और वह उतना प्रिय भी नहीं लगता परिणामे विषमिव -- आरम्भमें विषय बड़े सुन्दर लगते हैं? उनमें बड़ा सुख मालूम देता है परन्तु उनको भोगतेभोगते जब परिणाममें वह सुख नीरसतामें परिणत हो जाता है? उस सुखमें बिलकुल अरुचि हो जाती है? तब वही सुख जहरकी तरह मालूम देता है।संसारमें जितने प्राणी कैदमें पड़े हैं? जितने चौरासी लाख योनियों और नरकोंमें पड़े हैं? उसका कारण देखा जाय तो उन्होंने विषयोंका भोग किया है? उनसे सुख लिया है? इसीसे वे कैद? नरक आदिमें दुःख पा रहे हैं क्योंकि राजस सुखका परिणाम दुःख होता ही है -- रजसस्तु फलं दुःखम् (गीता 14। 16)।आज भी जो लोग घबरा रहे हैं? दुःखी हो रहे हैं? वे सब पदार्थोंके रागके कारण ही दुःख पा रहे हैं। जो धनी होकर फिर निर्धन हो गया है? वह जितना दुःखी और संतप्त है? उतना दुःख और सन्ताप स्वाभाविक निर्धनको नहीं है क्योंकि उसके भीतर सुखके संस्कार अधिक नहीं पड़े हैं। परन्तु धनीने राजस सुख अधिक भोगा है? उसके भीतर सुखके संस्कार अधिक पड़े हैं? इसलिये उसको धनके अभावका दुःख ज्यादा है। जैसे? जो मनुष्य तरहतरहकी सामग्री भोजन करनेवाला है? उसके भोजनमें कभी थोड़ीसी भी कमी रह जाय तो उसको वह कमी बड़ी खटकती है कि आज भोजनमें चटनी नहीं है? खटाई नहीं है? मिठाई नहीं है? अमुकअमुक चीज नहीं है -- इस प्रकार नहींनहींका ही ताँता लगा रहता है। परन्तु साधारण आदमी बाजरेकी रूखीसूखी रोटी खाकर भी मौजसे रहता है? उसको भोजनमें किसी चीजकी कमी खटकती ही नहीं। तात्पर्य यह हुआ कि पदार्थोंके संयोगसे जितना ज्यादा सुख लिया है? उतना ही उसके अभावका अनुभव होता है। अभावके अनुभवमें दुःख ही होता है। जिस पदार्थकी कामना होती है? उसकी प्राप्तिके लिये मनुष्य उद्योग करते हैं। उद्योग करनेपर भी वस्तु मिलेगी या नहीं मिलेगी? इसमें संदेह रहता है। वस्तु न मिले तो उसके अभावका दुःख होता है? और वस्तु मिल जाय तो उस वस्तुको और भी अधिक प्राप्त करनेकी इच्छा हो जाती है। इस प्रकार इच्छापूर्ति नयी इच्छाका कारण बन जाती है और इच्छापूर्ति तथा फिर इच्छाकी उत्पत्ति -- यह चक्कर चलता ही रहता है? इसका कभी अन्त नहीं आता। तात्पर्य यह है कि इच्छा कभी मिटती नहीं और इच्छाके रहते हुए अभाव खटकता रहता है। यह अभाव ही विषकी तरह है अर्थात् दुःखदायी है।जब राजस सुख परिणाममें विषकी तरह है? तो फिर राजस सुख लेनेवाले जितने लोग हैं? उन सबको सुखभोगके अन्तमें मर जाना चाहिये परन्तु राजस सुख विषकी तरह मारता नहीं? प्रत्युत विषकी तरह अरुचिकारक हो जाता है। उसमें पहले जैसी रुचि होती है? वैसी रुचि अन्तमें नहीं रहती अर्थात् वह सुख विषकी तरह हो जाता है? साक्षात् विष नहीं होता।राजस सुख विषकी तरह क्यों होता है कारण कि विष तो एक जन्ममें ही मारता है? पर राजस सुख कई जन्मोंतक मारता है। राजस सुख लेनेवाला रागी पुरुष शुभ कर्म करके यदि स्वर्गमें भी चला जाता है? तो वहाँ भी उसको सुख? शान्ति नहीं मिलती। स्वर्गमें भी अपनेसे ऊँची श्रेणीवालोंको देखकर ईर्ष्या होती है कि ये हमारेसे ऊँचे क्यों हो गये समान पदवालोंको देखकर दुःख होता है कि ये हमारे समान पदपर आकर क्यों बैठ गये और नीची श्रेणीवालोंको देखकर अभिमान आता है कि हम इनसे ऊँचे हैं इस प्रकार उसके मनमें ईर्ष्या? दुःख और अभिमान होते ही रहते हैं? फिर उसके मनमें सुख कहाँ और शान्ति कहाँ इतना ही नहीं? पुण्योंके क्षीण हो जानेपर उसको पुनः मृत्युलोकमें आना पड़ता है -- क्षीणे पुण्ये मर्त्यलोकं विशन्ति (गीता 9। 21)। यहाँ आकर फिर शुभ कर्म करता है और फिर स्वर्गमें जाता है। इस प्रकार जन्ममरणके चक्करमें चढ़ा ही रहता है -- गतागतं कामकामा लभन्ते (9। 21)। यदि वह रागके कारण पापकर्मोंमें लग जाता है तो परिणाममें चौरासी लाख योनियों और नरकोंमें पड़ता हुआ न जाने कितने जन्मोंतक जन्मतामरता रहता है? जिसका कोई अन्त नहीं आता। इसलिये इस सुखको विषकी तरह कहा गया है।तत्सुखं राजसं स्मृतम् -- सात्त्विक सुखके लिये तो (सैंतीसवें श्लोकमें) प्रोक्तम् पद कहा है? पर राजस सुखके लिये यहाँ स्मृतम् पद कहनेका तात्पर्य है कि पहले भी मनुष्यने राजस सुखका फल दुःख पाया है परन्तु रागके कारण वह संयोगकी तरफ पुनः ललचा उठता है। कारण कि संयोगका प्रभाव उसपर पड़ा हुआ है और परिणामके प्रभावको वह स्वीकार नहीं करता। अगर वह परिणामके प्रभावको स्वीकार कर ले? तो फिर वह राजस सुखमें फँसेगा नहीं। स्मृति? शास्त्र? पुराण आदिमें ऐसे बहुतसे इतिहास आते हैं? जिनमें मनुष्योंके द्वारा राजस सुखके कारण बहुत दुःख पानेकी बात आयी है। इसी बातको स्मरण करानेके लिये यहाँ स्मृतम् पद आया है।जिसकी वृत्ति जितनी सात्त्विक होती है?
