Mind is the center of all the activities of the senses, and thus when we hear about sense objects the mind generally becomes a reservoir of all ideas of sense gratification; and, as a result, the mind and the senses become the repositories of lust. Next, the intelligence department becomes the capital of such lustful propensities. Intelligence is the immediate next-door neighbor of the spirit soul. Lusty intelligence influences the spirit soul to acquire the false ego and identify itself with matter, and thus with the mind and senses. The spirit soul becomes addicted to enjoying the material senses and mistakes this as true happiness. This false identification of the spirit soul is very nicely explained in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (10.84.13) : yasyātma-buddhiḥ kuṇape tri-dhātuke sva-dhīḥ kalatrādiṣu bhauma ijya-dhīḥ yat-tīrtha-buddhiḥ salile na karhicij janeṣv abhijñeṣu sa eva go-kharaḥ “A human being who identifies this body made of three elements with his self, who considers the by-products of the body to be his kinsmen, who considers the land of birth worshipable, and who goes to the place of pilgrimage simply to take a bath rather than meet men of transcendental knowledge there is to be considered like an ass or a cow.”","sourceLocator":"bhagavadgita_chapter_3_slok_40.json#/prabhu/ec","sourceUrl":"https://github.com/vedicscriptures/bhagavad-gita","sourceCommit":"43dfc8db815d01e15a347ea294b089334cf2aa17","alignmentStatus":"machine-validated; human review pending","checksum":"0e020e29805a9cd9dc7f5ff00e3d9698e6af85399d5be6a417b03fb54f69b2f9","corpusVersion":"gita-commentaries-0.2.0"},{"id":"prabhupada-et:source:3.40","canonicalRef":"gita.3.40","chapter":3,"verse":40,"authorId":"prabhupada","author":"A. जिससे उसमें जडताका राग उत्पन्न हो जाता है। राग उत्पन्न होनेपर जडतासे सम्बन्ध हो जाता है। जडतासे सम्बन्ध होनेपर ही कामनाकी उत्पत्ति होती है। कामना उत्पन्न होनेपर जीव मोहित होकर संसार-बन्धनमें बँध जाता है।\nसम्बन्ध-- अब आगेके तीन श्लोकोंमें भगवान् कामको मारनेका प्रकार बताते हुए उसे मारनेकी आज्ञा देते हैं।","sourceLocator":"bhagavadgita_chapter_3_slok_40.json#/rams/hc","sourceUrl":"https://github.com/vedicscriptures/bhagavad-gita","sourceCommit":"43dfc8db815d01e15a347ea294b089334cf2aa17","alignmentStatus":"machine-validated;
